I was very anxious to get out and try the BLX version of this racquet. The BLX technology and dense string pattern promises a soft, controlled ride and I was looking forward to testing it out.

 

 

One word, solid. The slight head-light balance and overall light weight makes this a very nice racquet to play with. The BLX technology seems to “solid up” the frame as I didn’t feel as much vibration on off-center hits as I thought I might. This frame has good pop to it and there is some power that is there for you when you ask it to deliver. I had nice control, due to the dense string pattern, and I was able to generate ample topspin and slice. I could feel the flex in the racquet but it wasn’t too much. For this racquet, it seemed just right. Overall the BLX Six One Team was a pleasure to hit groundstrokes with.

 

Control was the key feature I notices on serves as there is a slightly muffled response on serves. I was able to hit my spots with no problem at all but I was unable to generate the power I prefer from heavier racquets. This racquet did not have the bite I was looking for in my slice and kick serves. I had to take a bit more than normal swipe at it to make it kick. Returns were well controlled and returning deep was not an issue.

 

I felt confident hitting volleys. The overall light weight allowed me to switch between the forehand and backhand quickly and I could direct the ball well. I would have liked to have more heft through the volleys but overall, it still felt nice. This racquet has what volleyers want, control and feel. I had amazing feel on angled and drop volleys. Overheads were not an issue as I felt in control of anything thrown my way. If I were to be picky, I would have liked more put-away power but I normally had enough.

 

If you’re looking for a mid-size racquet that delivers a solid, controlled response, then this is your racquet. The light weight and dense string pattern will appeal to a wide variety of players as it was solid overall with no real issues. I didn’t like the hybrid leather/polyurethane grip that Wilson used on this racquet but that’s easily changeable. It felt a little thin and under humid conditions it might not hold well. The paintjob on this racquet has great colors but I would have liked it better without the swirl. It seems like Wilson likes this pattern as several racquets now have a similar look. I would recommend this racquet for any player who has long fast ground strokes and is looking for the added racquet head speed of a lighter racquet. That being said, this is an excellent racquet and will be a solid performer for players of all levels.
